Gear up for car sales success

I work at the most reputable and high-performing Mercedes-Benz dealership in Romania — the country where I live.

Here, we are around 16 people selling new Mercedes-Benz cars and commercial vehicles.

We represent the crème de la crème.

All these salespeople (except me — and soon you, after reading this article) use a bunch of tools, but they still miss the big picture:

  • Outlook as the email client

  • The CRM required by the company

  • The Mercedes-Benz software used to communicate with the factories — where we can check order statuses, search the national stock across all dealerships, and do a few other things

  • The Microsoft Office suite

  • Sometimes a PDF-to-Word converter (and the reverse)

  • Calculator

  • A screenshot tool or the default Windows software

  • WhatsApp

And yet, in the era of A.I., they don’t use ChatGPT or any other AI-powered tool.

Why is this important?

Here are some of the ways I use ChatGPT when selling cars:

  • Proofread long messages that I would otherwise have to check manually.

  • Proofread my English messages, since English isn’t my native language.

  • Translate messages into other languages so I can speak directly to my customers. For example, if the customer is Chinese, I write to them in Chinese — always starting with a sentence explaining that I use translation software, so small inaccuracies might occur.

  • Adapt my messages to each customer. If a client is very technical, I ask ChatGPT to make my message more detailed and informative.

  • Find information in seconds while talking to a customer. For example, I can ask, “How many millimeters does a tow hook add to the total length of this specific car?”

…and many other ways too.

ChatGPT has become a mandatory tool in my daily work. It helps me every moment — like a personal assistant.

I pay $25 per month (as of now) for the premium plan, and it’s absolutely worth it for access to the latest ChatGPT capabilities.

Video editing software

You absolutely need to promote yourself and the cars you sell on social media — and for that, you need to create videos and reels.

Use a video editing tool like DaVinci Resolve on your computer or CapCut on your phone.

Website + Newsletter

If your dealership allows you to have your own website, you should create one.

That website only needs to do two things:

  • Present you and your contact details.

  • Invite clients to subscribe to your newsletter.

In your newsletter, you can promote special deals, new arrivals, test drives, and events.

In 2025 and beyond, the role of a car salesperson is very different from what it used to be.

I strongly believe that every one of us — car salespeople — are actually entrepreneurs who sell cars. We partner with our dealerships to share both the wins and the losses.

Why the losses too? Because if they make a mistake or we do, we both lose sales.
